RECOVERY OR RE-INSTALLER CDS
Almost
all computers come with recovery or reinstall CDs- that is a simple fact; that
is how computers work. The small number
of computers that do not come with recovery CDs (like some Sonys)
come with a utility that reminds you to make your own recovery CDs right when
you get your computer. You should do
this immediately.
Having
those CDs- either the originals or the ones you make— are your responsibility
and if you lose them… you will have to
either try to persuade your company to send you more — which is very doubtful--
or you will have to pony up the money and buy Windows all over again at between
$150 and $200 for the CDs.
Unfortunately, salespeople never tell you that you will need these CDs for when (not if!) you have to reinstall your Windows after a hard drive failure or virus corruption. Have them, keep them handy.
They may be marked “Recovery CDs”, “Reinstall CDs”, or “System Software CDs.”
